Beatport announced over the weekend an update to its Beatport Pro online music store: You can now filter songs, genres, and artist releases by musical key, allowing you to make purchase decisions based on your harmonic mixing needs. The update also includes keyboard shortcuts for easier interface navigation and track preview playback on the site.
While not the elusive art it once was, mixing in key is still a practice that isn’t common for a lot of DJs, which is a bit of a shame because a properly executed, harmonically-mixed set can really take your audience places and your DJing to the next level. The good news here is that you can still bake harmonic mixing into your preparation routine and performances to set yourself apart from the throng of DJs who don’t.
