Lighting is going through a bit of a purple patch, with new LED fixtures and now wireless systems revolutionising the heavy, fragile and expensive DJ lighting rigs of old.
And while full-on pre-programmed systems for solo DJs, like SoundSwitch and Pioneer DJ’s RB-DMX1 are showing promise, what many DJs want is simply something they can set up and control easily using their phone – after all, we use our phones for everything else right?
ChauvetDJ’s Bluetooth-enabled BTAir system currently offers an iOS or Android app and three compatible lights, the SlimPAR T12 BT, the SlimPAR Q12 BT and the COLORband T3 BT, and the company has just released a video showing the 20-second pairing and activation time between the lights and the mobile app.
What we think
For this system to really take off, we’d like to see a wider variety of units that can use the app, including battery powered units – after all, if this is all about convenience, then one of the big things about setting up especially when you’re on your own, is plugging everything in. Battery-powered, Bluetooth fixtures of every important type in the BTAir range, plus enough resource put into keeping the app improving and up to date, could really see this take off.
