Mixvibes has released a significant update to its Cross DJ app for iOS devices. Now at 2.0, the latest version gives Cross DJ a cosmetic overhaul as well as an under the hood tune up: Simple, solid colours and bigger faders/pads have taken the place of greys and gradients, and the app is now 50% smaller in file size, a boon for DJs who need all the space they can squeeze out of their iOS tablet or phone for MP3s.
Other features include the new Waveform View, which looks and works similar to Traktor DJ’s main interface (ie you can “scratch” the waveforms), support for iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, and compatibility with Numark’s iDJ Live II controller for the iPad, among others.
Thoughts after a quick play
While some have criticised Cross DJ as lagging behind other iOS DJ apps graphically in the past (interface not as sleek and simple as Algoriddim’s djay, lack of waveform interface like djay and Traktor DJ), with these features now baked into Cross DJ 2.0, Mixvibes demonstrates here that it’s very much keen to play at the same level as the other portable DJing titans. It’s a significant upgrade.
• Cross DJ 2.0 is available now for the iPad at $9.99 and for the iPhone at $2.99, and is a free update for all existing Cross DJ for iOS users.
