Digital DJ Pool Relaunches, Adds A Social Media Network For DJs

Digital DJ Pool, one of the longest-running MP3 record download pools, has just relaunched with a social media platform for DJs added into its more conventional download pool offering. The idea is that you can follow other DJs, labels and artists, and it lets you curate your own music feed that sends notifications if there’s anything new happening in your network.

DJ/producers who upload their productions to Digital DJ Pool now get data on where their music is getting downloaded and played at.

Another social platform?

It’s always good to see companies update and reinvent. While the new social features sound cool in theory, the question is, is it something that DJs will actually use in practice? After all, we’re already drowning in push notifications and alerts as it is (thanks Facebook). That said, if it helps to discover music, it may be well received.

Also the data and analytics section could prove to be useful for DJ/producers and remixers, and could be a way to find out how much attention and heat a track is getting and where. Savvy producers can use that data to inform future productions, and to give them ideas on who and where to market their tracks.

In-app streaming continues to take shape

We’re told that Digital DJ Pool has some “DJ integrations” planned. As mainstream music consumption continues to shift to streaming instead of physical music and MP3 downloads, we’re all wondering what effect this will have on digital DJing. There have been rumours for years now of the iTunes Store closing, and there has been a lot of talk about streaming platforms being integrated into DJ software: Tidal and SoundCloud, for instance, can already be accessed within Serato DJ.

It’s unsurprising then that MP3 download pools also want a piece of the streaming action. DJ City recently announced that it has partnered with Beatport to create Beatsource, an online store that caters to open-format / club / top 40 DJs. You’ll also be able to access it within your DJ software when Beatport’s in-app DJ streaming service called Beatport Link goes live.
