A new virtual reality musical experience called Electronauts launches today, with a lineup of electronic and hip-hop artists including the Chainsmokers, Dim Mak talent, Tokimonsta, Krewella, People Under the Stairs, Del the Funky Homosapien and scores more.
Electronauts is a VR music creation experience that allows the user to remix and perform tracks via stems and virtual instruments. The makers ask us to “imagine Guitar Hero for the Electric Daisy Carnival set”.
It’s powered by something called the Music Reality Engine, with the aim of letting anyone feel like a world-class musician instantly, capturing a bit of what it’s like to perform and produce great electronic music.
Everything’s always on key and the music never skips a beat, due to built-in quantisation. Unlike Guitar Hero, there’s no scoring built in, so while it can be collaborative, you don’t actually compete against anyone. The idea is basically just to make music.
The supplied tracks are heavily EDM and hip-hop focused, but expect extra sound packs to be released to expand the music you can create.
• Electronauts will be available on Steam and Oculus Home for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift at $19.99, and the Playstation Store for PS VR at $17.99.
