Native Instruments just released iMaschine 2, an update to its iOS beatmaking app that can let you create an entire song on your mobile. New features include the Arranger which lets you turn loops into full-on productions by grouping and editing them into sections, Step Mode which lets you draw drum hits and notes on a grid without having to perform them (much like a step sequencer on a drum machine), and Smart Play Mode which lets you play scales, ensuring that you’re hitting notes that are in key all the time.
It’s also optimised for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, taking advantage of the 3D Touch features of these phones by distinguishing a light pad tap from a pad mash.
We’re fans of the Maschine hardware controller from Native Instruments, and the newly updated iMaschine 2 borrows even more of what makes beat producing on the hardware fun and translates it to an on-the-go app that you’ve literally got on you at all times (after all, who doesn’t take their phone with them everywhere these days?).
