Persistent industry rumour has it that Avid, the maker of the Torq DJ platform and the Torq Xponent DJ controller, is about to drop them from their product range and thus move out of DJing hardware and software.
The rumour first surfaced at Musikmesse when Avid’s stand failed to have either Torq software or the company’s Torq Xponent DJ controller on show. Since then, we’ve heard the same information from two different sources, with one pro audio company that has an interest in the software telling us that “the Avid guys won’t return emails or phone calls”.
Torq was in its day a capable and forward-looking package, but never really received the support or marketing backing of the bigger packages, and despite Torq 2.0 being released after a considerable delay last year and Avid promising that things would be different from here on in, all has been quiet since then.
We’ve asked Avid if they can confirm or deny the rumour, but as of publication have had no reply from the company. If anything changes we’ll keep you informed.
