Numark’s Lightwave speakers are small and portable, designed to be used at parties and small gigs, with the novel addition of two bars of bright LED lighting built in behind the grills of each speaker. The idea is that DJs just starting out don’t need to invest in separate lights.
After this NAMM 2015 demo, we decided we liked these because the sound quality appeared to be good, they were nice and loud, the lights are very controllable (from “background” mood lighting to in your face programmes), and not only would you be able to use them for small gigs, they’d be fine at home as your practice speakers too (you can turn the lights off totally if you want).
You can pair them up with cabling, and they have pole holed underneath them so you could add a sub or two for a proper low-end punch at gigs, probably leaving the subs safely stowed away in a garage or cupboard when using them at home. So for certain DJs, these could be their home speakers, gig speakers and lighting rig, all in one, offering a very budget-conscious solution while at the same time removing the temptation to take delicate home speakers to parties.
Do you like the look of the Lightwave speakers, or do you think they’re just a gimmick? Would you buy them? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
