Numark just announced the DJ2GO2 controller for Serato DJ. It’s a compact two-channel controller that has two jogwheels, pitch faders, transport controls, and four performance pads. It also has a sound card onboard and is USB bus-powered, so you just need to plug it into your laptop running Serato DJ (it comes bundled with Serato DJ Intro), hook up your speakers and headphones, and you’re good to go.
We love the fact that the Numark DJ2GO2 has such a tiny bartprint that it can acutally sit on the pad rest of your laptop – that makes it perfect for the tightest of DJ booths (or pub nights where you’re doing quick switchovers with five other DJs). Its slim build also means that it’s compact enough to be placed in the same bag that you use to store your laptop, so you’re never left without any means to DJ when you’re travelling or on holiday.
At just under US$80, it’s ridiculously cheap – certainly cheap enough to be a backup controller for any gigging DJ who relies on Serato DJ to get the job done. And as Serato needs to be “unlocked” by approved hardware to be used for actual DJing at all (unlike all other DJ software that can be controlled completely without external hardware), we can see this being used for practice and preparation by DJs at all levels.
