The Lowdown

The Numark Mixdeck Express can play CDs, MP3s and control DJ software, but it has quite a few limitations when compared to the Mixdeck and especially the Mixdeck Quad. Despite these, it still is a solid, straightforward unit that has essential DJ features without breaking the bank.

First Impressions / Setting up

The Numark Mixdeck Express is a three-channel all-in-one with CD/MP3/USB capability. It can also be set-up as a Midi controller for your DJ software of choice.

The Mixdeck Express also has a three-band EQ for all three channels with a CD and Line switch input while the third channel has an aux and mic option. A global cue gain knob and a master output knob can be seen on top of the device.

You have your Cue, Brake and Reverse controls for scratching and an automatic BPM analyzer to help with beatmatching if you need it.

The Mixdeck Express has a stereo RCA input and output, stereo XLR outputs for connecting to PA systems and 1/4” and 1/8” headphone out. It also has a couple of mic input for good measure.

In Use

For being relatively affordable, the Numark Mixdeck Express impresses with its solid build quality not only in the chassis but in the buttons and faders as well. None of them feel flimsy or budget at all and could probably survive hundreds of hours of use.

Scrolling through your music library on your USB is a bit difficult since the unit only has a single knob to navigate with but the unit plays CDs well and is easy to set-up with any DJ software out there.

A number of Amazon reviewers really liked how the Mixdeck Express is a simple unit that covers all the essentials while being affordable. Though some mentioned that some features such a Sync button or a couple of effects are sorely missed.

Conclusion

The Numark Mixdeck Express is a solid, straightforward unit that brings essential features to perform a set without breaking the bank. Though it may not have some extra bells and whistles, it is recommended for hobbyists who want to upgrade or to more seasoned DJs who want something easy to carry.
